Twitter vs. Facebook
I'm looking for some advice on microblogging etiquette and usage. I have both twitter and facebook accounts, but I haven't figured out when I should use twitter vs. facebook status/news feed.
For a while, I had twitter and facebook connected via the facebook twitter app. This app allows your tweets to automatically update your facebook status. It's interesting, but it's one-directional. Updating my facebook status directly doesn't produce a tweet, and tweets from others don't show up in my facebook news feed.
I often wonder if I need both services. On the one hand, twitter is far more dynamic and instantaneous, and certainly the folks I'm following on twitter don't exactly match my friend list in facebook. On the other hand, in most cases my posts to twitter are equally applicable to my facebook feed (with the notable exception of @friend twitter posts that would be confusing for others on my facebook feed.)
So my question to you: how do you use facebook status vs. twitter? Do you connect the two with the twitter facebook app? Would you also like to see these technologies merge?

Personally, I always use Twitter and have that linked via the Facebook Twitter plug-in. It would be nice to see twitter and facebook linked both ways, just not one way.
Doug, I think twitter is a great service for micro blogging and facebook is better for social networking. Also, if you want to have one service to see updates from facebook and twitter and number of other sites you may consider to look at http://friendfeed.com/
I agree Eugene, except that there are lots of 2-way conversations going on in both twitter and facebook status/feeds. I'm beginning to feel that they are duplicative technologies. If you're using them differently thought, I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks for the friendfeed link. I keep hearing about it, but I guess it's time to try it out.
I always post to Twitter and have the app update Facebook status. @friend tweets don't update FB status. If anyone on FB comments on my status, I will get an email. That's my mode.
I sometimes wonder if anyone will care whether I'm crossing the street right now? Other times I wonder if it's appropriate to declare that I'm picking my nose at this very moment? I've of course never felt compelled to blog about such minor events, unless of course there's a really good associated photo, but if I could micro blog about such minutia, it would open up a whole new world. I could discuss all the things that are currently semi irrelevant, thereby make them semi relevant instead. Clearly I need to find a little more time to twitter and a lot more time to keep my facebook pages looking sharp.
My body is really sore from clearing the snow from my driveway yet again. Where's the best place to track that issue?
I think twitter is pretty good and useful, especially twitter search. I get zero value from Facebook for business purposes.
btw, I have linked up my twitter feed to Facebook too. I am thinking of removing it since I never respond to people on facebook.
@Ed - I care! Well, maybe not that much about your nasal activities.
@Ian - I was skeptical about Facebook at first, but I've reconnected with a lot of people I haven't seen in years, so it seems to be working.
@Bob - Thanks! I didn't realize @friend tweets don't post to facebook. I've avoided uses them because I thought they would.
